Vesicular Transport (Secretory Pathway)

ER-to-Golgi-to-plasma membrane trafficking via coated vesicles.

Overview

The secretory pathway transports proteins from ER through Golgi to plasma membrane or lysosomes. COPII vesicles mediate ER-to-Golgi transport, COPI handles retrograde transport. SNARE proteins drive membrane fusion.

Cellular Location

ER → Golgi → plasma membrane / lysosomes

Clinical Significance

Essential for protein secretion; defects cause cystic fibrosis (CFTR misfolding) and congenital disorders of glycosylation.
